How to play Wordzy

1. Find the hidden five-letter word in six tries. Type a word and press Enter (or tap the keys on screen). Every guess must be a real five-letter word.
2. Each letter of your guess then turns over: GREEN means that letter is in the word in that very place; ORANGE means it is in the word but somewhere else; GREY means it is not in the word at all.
3. A letter used twice is marked twice only if the word has it twice: guess EERIE when the word is THEME and one E is green, one orange, and the third grey.
4. The keyboard keeps score: every letter shows the best it has done so far, so you can see what is left to try.
5. DAILY CHALLENGE: everybody gets the same word today (a new one every day at midnight UTC), and ONE GO at it. When you are done, the board under your grid shows how your friends did. RANDOM WORD: a new word every game, as many as you like.
6. CHALLENGE: press Challenge and you get a link for your word. Everybody who opens it gets one go at the same word and joins the challenge board: tries, time and coloured squares, never the letters. You only ever get one go at a word, so a challenge on a word you have already played shows your result instead. SHARE sends your squares and the link (on a phone it opens the share menu; on a computer it copies them).

Wordzy strategy

The basics that turn knowing the rules into winning games — what to do first, what to keep, what to avoid.

• Open with a word full of common letters: five different ones, two or three of them vowels (CRANE, SLATE, AROSE, TRACE). Repeating a letter early wastes a slot.
• Use your second guess to test five NEW letters rather than chasing the first green. Knowing what is NOT in the word narrows it fast.
• Remember the orange letters belong somewhere else: try each one in a different spot on the next guess.
• Words can repeat a letter (SPEED, LLAMA, ROBOT). When the usual letters run out, consider a double.
• With one or two letters left to find and many words that fit (BATCH, CATCH, HATCH, MATCH, PATCH, WATCH), a guess that tests several of the possible first letters at once beats trying them one by one.

Is Wordzy the same as Wordle?

It plays the same way: five letters, six tries, colours for each letter. Wordle is a trademark of The New York Times; Wordzy is our own version, with its own word list, and is not affiliated with it.

Is there a daily word?

Yes. The Daily Challenge gives everyone the same word each day (it changes at midnight UTC), numbered from Daily Challenge #1, with one go each. Random Word gives you a new word every game, as many as you like.

Why orange instead of yellow?

On this site gold means it is your turn to act, so the letters in the word but in the wrong place are orange. Orange and green are also easier to tell apart for the most common colour blindness.

Which words are allowed?

Any real five-letter English word from the ENABLE word list. The answers come from a smaller list of everyday words, with no plurals or past tenses, so the word is always one you know.

Do I need an account?

No. Type a name and play — no signup, no download, nothing to install. Making an account is optional and only exists to keep your stats, nickname and preferences across devices.

Is it really free?

Yes, all of it. Every game on Board Game Universe is free to play, with no premium tier holding anything back.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes. It runs in a mobile browser on phones and tablets as well as on a desktop — there is no app to download.

How do I play with my friends?

Start a table and send your friends the link. They open it, type a name, and sit down. Moves and table chat happen in real time.

Can I play against the computer?

Yes. Add a bot to any table and it plays a proper game — useful for filling a seat while you wait for a fourth.
