How to play Farmers

  1. You always hold your NEXT tile, dealt in advance so you can plan while others play — only you see it. When your turn starts it flips face up for the whole table.
  2. Turn your tile any way you like and add it to the countryside. Edges must agree: roads meet roads, cities meet cities, fields meet fields.
  3. Then you may put ONE meeple to work on the tile you just laid — on its road, its city, its cathedral, or lying in a field as a farmer. Only if nobody already works that road, city, or field.
  4. A finished ROAD (both ends capped) pays 1 point per tile. A finished CITY (walls closed all round) pays 2 per tile plus 2 per flag. A CATHEDRAL pays 9 once all eight tiles surround it.
  5. When a feature finishes, its meeples come home to be used again. FARMERS never come home — they lie in their fields to the end.
  6. Tied for the most meeples on a shared feature? Everybody tied scores the full amount.
  7. When the last tile is placed, unfinished work pays small: 1 per tile (plus 1 per flag) for roads and cities, 1 per tile around an unfinished cathedral.
  8. Then the harvest: each farm pays 3 points per FINISHED city it touches, to whoever has the most farmers lying in it.
  9. Highest total rules the countryside. You have 7 meeples all game — spend them wisely.

Farmers FAQ

Is Farmers the same as Carcassonne?
It plays like the classic base game: the same 72 tiles, meeples on roads, cities, cathedrals and fields, the same scoring — including full farm scoring at the end. It is our own build with its own art.
How does farm scoring work?
A farmer lies in a field for the rest of the game. When the last tile is placed, every farm pays 3 points per finished city it touches, to whoever has the most farmers in it — ties pay everybody in full.
How many can play?
Two to five, and bots will fill any seat.
How long does a game take?
About 30 to 40 minutes — the 72-tile bag is the clock.
Do I need an account?
No. Type a name and play — no signup, no download, nothing to install. Making an account is optional and only exists to keep your stats, nickname and preferences across devices.
Is it really free?
Yes, all of it. Every game on Board Game Universe is free to play, with no premium tier holding anything back.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. It runs in a mobile browser on phones and tablets as well as on a desktop — there is no app to download.
How do I play with my friends?
Start a table and send your friends the link. They open it, type a name, and sit down. Moves and table chat happen in real time.
Can I play against the computer?
Yes. Add a bot to any table and it plays a proper game — useful for filling a seat while you wait for a fourth.
