How to play Chinese Checkers

Ten pegs each in a point of the star. Two, three, four or six can play; your target is the point opposite your own.
On your turn move one peg: either a single STEP to an empty neighbouring hole, or a HOP over an adjacent peg — anyone's — into the empty hole directly beyond, and keep hopping as long as you like in one move.
Tap a peg to see every hole it can reach, including the end of every chain of hops. Nothing is captured; pegs jumped over stay put.
A single hop is a move on its own — you may stop a chain at any hole along it, and you may hop over your own pegs as freely as anyone else's.
The first player to fill the opposite point with their ten pegs wins. If somebody has parked a peg in your point, filling the other holes counts.

Move your back pegs first and keep the group together: a ladder of pegs is a road for long hops, and a straggler left behind loses the game.
Look for the longest hop chain, not the biggest single step — a good chain crosses half the board in one move.
Build your bridge down the middle; the side lanes are longer and your opponent will use your pegs as stepping stones too.
Do not park a peg in a corner hole early — it blocks nothing and can be stranded when the rest move on.
Late in the game, fill the tip of your target first; the last holes to fill should be the ones nearest you.
